The Mid-Atlantic Sea Glass & Coastal Arts Festival

What a great time was had by all at the Mid-Atlantic Sea Glass & Coastal Arts Festival in Delaware last weekend.  The weather was perfect, great crowds and terrific vendors. We were fortunate enough to get to meet and talk to tons of other sea glass artists from across the U.S. It’s always so amazing to see what other artists are creating with their sea glass.

Lewes, Delaware is located on the beautiful Delmarva Peninsula. This historic little town was the first settlement in the first state! Every year, the Lewes Historical Society hosts the Sea Glass & Coastal Arts Festival for the whole Atlantic region. Hundreds of artists come out and showcase their creations. It truly is wonderful! Besides visiting all the exhibitors and attending lectures on glass, visitors also got to meander around the many historic homes on the property.

This year the festival was fortunate to have Richard LeMotte as an exhibitor and lecturer.  Richard is the president of the North American Sea Glass Association and author of the award winning book “Pure Sea Glass” This book is a must for all serious sea glass collectors.

Many other friends and fellow members of the North American Sea Glass Association were also at the festival.

Sea glass artist Merri Lassotovitch makes unique stained glass panels featuring her hand collected sea glass from the East Coast. Her work is beautiful, and it really is a family effort. Her daughters, husband, and mother all pitch in to help her create the masterpieces.

Some other artists we loved from the festival included Jayne Hawley, owner of The Earthling. She came all the way from California to sell her air plants and gorgeous cobalt and turquoise sea glass. Patti from The Beach Glass Store creates all original genuine beach glass artwork.  Gary de Blois from the Sea Glass Journal and Just Beachy Keen has my favorite T-shirts that say “Do the Sea Glass Stoop”.

It is not all about the sea glass, though!  Many other coastal themed artists also exhibit their work.   My personal favorite exhibitor was Larry Ringgold of Turtlepoint Driftwood.  He is a woodworker and makes the most amazing sculptures out of driftwood.

This is one show that we will definitely have on our agenda for next year.  Only next year I plan to stay longer to get to enjoy the area and of course go sea glassing.
